Platinum Electrical Engineering Limited

With a wealth of experience within the electrical engineering industry, we are a company proud of their status gained for comprehensive design, problem solving and delivery.

Whilst of engineering competence clearly covers many sectors, platinum has an industry leading skill set in bespoke solutions, often tailored to our client’s needs.

The start:

Founded in 2007 to support engineering and maintenance operations to local business in the North East of England and gained Regulator Approved contractor status within 6 months.

Platinum quickly grew and became a limited company in 2009, along with the award of the first Ministry of Defence order for rapid deployment electrical solutions for expeditionary forces. After the initial award Platinum became the design authority for the electrical equipment and are still improving on the offer today.

2010 saw Platinum break into factory automation, integrating with existing legacy control systems and building new custom projects for a broad range of clients and industries.

Potentially Explosive Locations

As business shifted in 2011 a more diverse scope for equipment was required, Platinum added CompEx HazLoc Competencies to all engineers training matrices to enable working in areas on electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres. This also saw a new business area unfold in the production of control panels and equipment manufacture for these environments.

Revenue boost mandates new premises

The growth in these business areas mandated a move to larger premises in 2012 and the beginnings of our mechanical design department, with all engineers training in 3D modelling, rendering and parametric modelling software.

The push into M&E design with integrated software solutions cemented Platinum’s place as one of the leaders in turnkey solutions for local business.

STOVL Military Aircraft Project

In 2013 Platinum where asked to be OEM equipment provider for the UK Aircraft carrier program for the new deck coating system, to support Lockheed Martin F35B lightning fast jet, landing capabilities -  Platinum won a Chairman’s award from BAE Systems for their involvement in the keystone project for the deployment of the F35 JSF.

The team grew in 2014 to keep up with the capabilities and most of the year was spent in R&D activities working towards patented technologies. Continued growth secured national work and equipment being supplied around the globe.

Custom Robotics Solution

The first order of 2015 was for Platinum UMC large scale surface engineering robotic system.  Due to the digital twinning of the UMC robotics platform, Platinum where able to deliver the solution on deck and commissioned within 8 months of order, exceeding all client expectations. Platinum continue to have engineering team support for multiple UMC robots over several sites for BAE Systems and the Aircraft carrier alliance.

The birth of the UMC robotics dawned the first incarnation of Platinum’s IIOT package and a shift into industry 4.0. Edge computing installed on board the robots fedback information in real time to clients and predict anomalies to catch potential system and hardware failures. Emerging technologies shaped the business in 2016 as Platinum utilised machine vision, SCADA and IIOT to design and build several test rigs for the lighting industry who had a quantum shift into LED technology, alongside revisions to new UMC robot variants to create an increased work envelope and improved 4 wheel drive / steer system.

The 4th Industrial Revolution

The pace of technology and a vision from within Platinum again refocused the business. 10 years from conception, with all the experience gained in many sectors, Platinum saw the step change in the beginnings of the fourth industrial revolution.

Ringing in the changes in 2017, Platinum took on the exciting challenge of introducing Industry 4.0 into their own business. Through software evaluation and supplier engagement, the engineering team took the first steps into digitalization.

Knowledge gained in the robotics field created some ideation around additive manufacturing and the award of a knowledge transfer partnership with a leading UK university in the research and development, of an on-site building AM robot started. Platinum employed a research fellow with extensive experience in the AM fields  to work directly with the university creating access to academia and some of the worlds leading experts in the AM arena, with a goal of assisting in the reduction of the 3 million social housing deficit in the United Kingdom. We continued to invest in Additive manufacturing infrastructure as part of our prototyping of new products.  This theme has continued and 2018 witnessed the role out of exciting new technology.

Mixed Reality – Audio/Visual Prescriptive Instruction for Safety.

Augmented / mixed reality featured heavily in the course of the year, thought leadership and deployment methods have been evangelized across the planet to help clients start their own journey. Impetus was placed in the machine learning (ML) , artificial intelligence (AI)  and assisted machine learning (aML) areas.

A.T.I.S.A

The latter part of 2018 saw the trademarked ATISA software / hardware platform development for Automated workflow, maintenance and testing of in-service assets.

2019 and 2020 have witnessed Platinum cement their position as a leader in industrial transformation and become the UK first Alliance partner to Schneider Electric for Machine industrial controls.
